I have an 01 that sputters at full throttle. It doesn't want to clean out. I have a couple mods. I cut a 1/2" hole on top of the air box, and I did an exhaust mod by cutting the end of the spark arrester for a little better exhaust flow. I have tried every position on the needle jet clip and I've tried adjusting the pilot jet screw until I was blue in the face. It sputtered even before I did the mods. My current main jet is a stock 70. Should I go up a size or down? This is starting to get frustrating! Thanks for any info....
Just curious if your getting dark smoke out of your exhaust? You may want to go down to a 67.5 on the main jet and put the needle in the 2nd position from the top which should be stock. I would also replace the spark plug and wires. If that does not work you may want to take a look at the cylinder to see if you have any scarring in it. If you do that may cause problems when you open up the throttle and the piston heats up and expands. Just some suggestions.
Thanks. I ordered a 67.5 and a 75 today. Is it possible that I may need to go up on the main since I have the mods? Just curious... I'll try a new plug and wire too. I'll let you know what happens... Thanx again. And oh yeah, the smoke looks fine.
No, you do not want to go to a 75 as you would be running much to rich at that point. 65 is pretty lean and 70 is a little rich so I think the 67.5 would just about right. If you run it to lean you will do more damage to the cylindar if you already have scarring.
I tried 72.5 first. It was kinda sluggish. The 67.5 greatly improved the performance all the way thru. It still sputters, but not as bad. I think I'll leave it as is. I've been persistent on getting it running perfectly, but I'm putting the brakes on.. For now.. Thanks All.
Update... T-man is running good and fast. I've decarbonized, put a new throttle cable, choke cable, spark plug cap, UNI POD Air Filter, 67.5 main jet, and the clip in the middle. I try to keep it somewhat rich. It runs very lean with the Uni air filter.

Once I had the same problem. It ran great except with the last little bit of throttle. I think the slide was coming up so far that the needle was lifting too far out of the main get. I tweaked the throttle cable just a very very small amount, and it ran fine.
